Alibaba Netpreneur Program was held from 23 March –  03 April 2019 at Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China. This 10 days program involving 44 entrepreneurs and business leaders from Malaysia who were selected by Alibaba Business School from 200++ individuals. This program was a joint venture between Alibaba Business School, Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), and SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp. Malaysia). Malaysia is the first Asian country that initiate the Alibaba Netpreneur Training Program.

Digital Business Operation System

Introducing to Alibaba Business Operation System, the entrepreneurs and business leaders were shown a big picture of digital economy development in China and how the business paradigm shift.

The program continued with bringing the participants to walk through the digital economy and digital infrastructure of Alibaba development.

There are several specialised platforms and infrastructures used by the Chinese multinational conglomerate in empowering the economy to global competitiveness.

Inclusive Development

Welcoming the participants with a site visit to rural eCommerce, eCommerce education and local eCommerce ecosystem company, it showed that China eCommerce users keep increasingly occurs in rural and inland regions. In fact, China leads the world to eCommerce and have proven with the world largest eCommerce market. China rural consumers nowadays using their mobile phones to access the internet and make purchases online.

During the program, there was a session where the entrepreneurs and business leaders shared their ideas in improving their businesses through the Business Hackathon session. Every team brainstormed to come out with the best business ideas.

Maxis eKelas Student Grant Award Ceremony “Anugerah Gemilang” was officiated by Encik Al-Ishsal Ishak, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at Menara Maxis on 27 March 2019. eKelas education programme was made possible by Maxis’ partnership with MCMC, with over 9,000 students connecting through the programme.

What is Anugerah Gemilang?

Anugerah Gemilang is a student grant scheme launched in August 2017 under Maxis eKelas. It is designed to recognise the eKelas students who have shown the most progress in their studies. All Maxis eKelas students who have been participating in the eKelas programme at Pusat Internet under Maxis’ care are eligible to apply for the Anugerah Gemilang eKelas Student Grant. Eligible students can apply online and submit their final school exam results for the previous and current year, which are then evaluated by Maxis. The first application for the student grant was opened to students in November 2017, with the first award ceremony held in March 2018.

At this second installation of the Anugerah Gemilang eKelas ceremony, 25 eKelas students were awarded for their academic achievements. Four students were presented with a cash contribution of RM1,200 and a school starter pack each, while 21 received RM600 and a school starter pack each. 

The criteria to win Anugerah Gemilang eKelas awards is students have to show the most progressed in their studies by achieving a minimum of one grade improvement in any 2 or all 3 of the subjects taught in the eKelas programme: English, Science and Mathematics, based on their mid-year exam results as the base assessment and final year exam results or PT3 results for Form 3 where improvement was recorded.

What is Maxis eKelas?

Maxis eKelas aims to unlock the potential and improve the academic performance of students in rural communities in form of after-school digital learning initiative which brings learning enrichment in a fun and vibrant way and provide access to quality education content, in line with the Malaysian School Syllabus.

eKelas Portal comes in 4 features, shown through “Kalau Nak Tahu, eKelaslah!” showcase:

Maxis eKelas students starts from Primary 6 up to Form 5, were exposed to experiential learning with competitions and group projects also motivational sessions by Maxis’ own young and brightest talents.

eKelas Portal helps the students to new ways of learning connecting the students to experienced teachers via:

  • Group projects
  • Videos
  • Competitions

Besides, eKelas Portal also helps to build the confidence among students with fun and engaging activities such as motivational talks and holiday camps.

We were awarded to join the special occasion as a rewarding journey in effort of bringing the digital learning closer to the community. MU DOT MY PLT started to involve with Maxis eKelas in late 2016 by improving the technologies of eKelas Portal development, live streaming and consultation.

The first ever WordCamp  in east Malaysia!

WordCamp Kota Kinabalu 2019 was organised by WordCamp Kinabalu Team at Grand Borneo Hotel, Kota Kinabalu on 9th of March 2019. As a global event, WordPress community around the world joined the WordCamp to boost and enhance their WordPress knowledge. 

The first WordCamp in Borneo able to assemble about 99 participants including speakers, organisers and sponsors whose enliven the WordCamp. Session include talks and also after-party session where WordPress enthusiasts build professional network among the businesses, marketers, developers, designers, entrepreneurs and SEOs.

8 local and international speakers were invited to share their valuable tips and secrets of developing a terrific website using WordPress during the WordCamp. Our trainer, Sam, was one of the invited speaker for the WordCamp Kinabalu 2019 with the topic of Top 10 Trending WordPress Designs in 2019.

WordPress Meetup KL Jan 2019

In sensing the importance of developing WordPress Web and WordPress Theme during Contributor Day at WordCamp KL 2018, KL WordPress Workshop Meetup was successfully scheduled on 26th January 2019 at KDC Tech Mahindra Cyberjaya, gathering around 80 participants from new to experienced WordPress users from various reputed organizations. Hosted by Sam Suresh, the workshop consist of two sessions. 

In the first session, WordPress Website Development using Elementor, conducted by Sam Suresh, participants were shown the steps on installing and developing WordPress Website on their own laptop and published to web hosting as the website completely created.

All MU DOT MY PLT customers including Non-Malaysian Customer having the billing address registered in Malaysia will be charged 6% Service Tax, in accordance to the Service Tax Act 2018 for the proportion services render after 1st August 2019 which the payment has been made prior to the service delivery.

SST implementation at MU DOT MY PLT effective 1 August 2019. Training and services provided by MU DOT MY PLT will include SST at a standard rate of 6% which will be on the invoice issued from 1st August 2019 onwards.

What is SST?

SST is Sales and Services Tax that has been implemented in Malaysia.

SST comprises two legislative acts: the Sales Tax Act 2018, levied on taxable goods that are imported into, or manufactured in Malaysia; and the Service Tax Act 2018 on selected prescribed service providers. The components of SST are a sales tax of 10% and a service tax of 6%.
